Welcome...We're working through some changes on the
website as we gear up for a
fundraising campaign to help us build an
environmental center in Archaie, Haiti.
4 July 2009: Today's
radio show featured Jennifer Siqueira, the founder
of the Miami chapter of Architects for Humanity -
www.afhmiami.org
and Elsie Craig, founder of the Children of Haiti
Enhancement Foundation -
www.cohef.org. To

If you'd like to
advertise
here and
on our blog, let me know. It's really a donation,
but we want to recognize our supporters so we can
offer banner ads, links, an opportunity to be on our
internet radio program, and, if you are so inclined,
video clips of 30-, 60- or 90 seconds.
The first half of 2009 was very busy. Highlights include:
March for Parks
Adopt-a-Tree programs - Miami-Dade County and
the City of Miami
Junior Green Leaves club at Hubert O. Sibley Middle
School, winner of an award from Fairchild Botanical Garden
for the development of the sustainable garden at the school.
Ocean Day at the beach day with 50+ inner-city kids
We'll also be expanding our coverage of our partner
organizations, both
domestically and internationally, by promoting their
activities and providing direct links.
Get ready for an increase in email communication. We're going
to begin using Constant Contact to create and distribute our
newsletter. Although we will continue to print a limited number
of copies on recycled paper, most of the people we need to be in
touch with are online. Speaking of online, we're planning to
have more of a presence on Facebook and use Twitter more
aggressively.
Our internet radio program on BlogTalkRadio attracts
listeners from around the world. We've decided to try and do the
show during some of the events Operation Green Leaves
participates in, reporting and interviewing. Check out the
archive of past shows:

New
Email Program Requires You to Opt-in
We need to move our contact list
from Outlook to Aweber, an email company. We will continue to send out
notices for a couple of months with the old system, however, we will ask
you each time to be sure that you opt-in to our new controlled contact
program. I plan to send updates on Operation Green Leaves activities, as well as related information about Haiti,
including our newsletter and BlogTalkRadio Show reminders.

Do you see a
tree in this picture?
This is City Soleil,
on the outskirts of Haiti's largest city,
Port-au-Prince. City Soleil covers about 27
square miles built on a garbage dump, and is
inhabited by over 500,000 people, most of
whom are children. This picture from a 2003
slideshow on the
Mercy & Sharing Foundation website.
