Deforestation = Destruction & Death

If you think Katrina was handled poorly by the U.S. government, imagine what it is like for the people of Haiti where an emergency management system is non-existent. We are working with other organizations to raise awareness, and, most importantly, money, for critically needed help in the wake of a series of tropical storms and hurricanes. Many of our Community Partners have been seriously affected. We are receiving email on a daily basis asking for our help, but we don't have the resources. How about you?

Can you spare $3.00?

As you know, a series of tropical storms and hurricanes have crippled the country of Haiti, isolating villages and towns by flooding low land and washing away bridges. Electricity is non-existent in most parts of the country. Fuel and food are scarce.

With hundreds of corpses, mostly children, being piled in makeshift morgues, the spirit of the people is being tested. Hear from some of the people who were there when Ike came out of the darkness and laid waste to so much. Some of the conversation is in Kreyol, but Nadine and others translate. The opinion is that the only way to prevent widespread flooding is to plant trees on the barren mountains that surround the coastal plain.

Participating in the call:

  • Jean Vilmond Hilaire Ph.d, executive director, Societe Audubon Haiti - audubonhaiti.org
  • Jane Wynne, director of the Wynne Farm Ecological Preserve in Kenscott, Haiti
  • Gabrielle Vincent - Sonje Ayiti

The show is produced by Ken English, the BlogTalkRadioGuy, for the Social Radio Network.

You can have a positive impact on the future of Haiti, as bleak as it might be, by enabling us to plant a tree. Make a donation. Allow us to collect some money so we can help with the clean-up and get our Community Partners back to the business of reforesting the hillsides of Haiti, before all of the top soil is washed into the sea. And with it, Haiti's future.

Everyday, children die on the street. Their bodies are stacked in a morgue, until they can be placed in mass graves. Every time it rains, more top soil washes into the sea, and with it the spirit of the Haitian people. Imagine, you can make a positive impact. You can

Plant a tree for 3 dollars!
